Why this blog exists

"Sensei Frank"From time to time, there are important points I don’t always get to cover in class, so this is the place where I’ll cover those points. Some points will be longer than others; some will make sense and others may not.

My intention is not to impress with a wealth of knowledge but to simply share what little I have learnt so far.

Keep what’s useful and disregard what’s not.

How do I justify the creation of this blog? I carry in my wallet the following quote by American modern dancer and choreographer Martha Graham:

There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you with action and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable it is, nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open.

… combining this with one of my favourite quotations from Bruce Lee:

Ultimately, martial art means honestly expressing yourself. It is easy for me to put on a show and be cocky so I can show you some really fancy movement. But to express oneself honestly, not lying to oneself; that, my friend, is very hard to do.

… leads me to this — My Channel to You — where I can but only try to express myself as honestly as I try to do in class.

With Respect
